I’m so excited! I just made plans to visit our older daughter who lives in Reno. I’ll drive over next week and spend a couple of days just to catch up. We had a visit on the calendar in April – April! – but thought better of it because, well, you all know why.
I admire families who are disciplined about staying in touch. Zoom meetings every week with the kids and grandkids. I should be doing that, I guess, that’s just not our style. We do text a lot, though. But I do hunger for the face to face and I can honestly say that I can’t wait.
These days, a visit like this has double benefits, doesn’t it? Not only do I get to have a long-overdue visit with Wendy, but I get to actually go somewhere too! I have no idea whether Nevada is opened up or not. Can we go out to eat there? Can we go shopping? I guess I’ll take my mask and my credit card and be surprised.
How about you? Are you out and about like usual or is it a special treat to hop in the car or on a plane these days? Let me know what you’re doing to keep the cabin fever at bay on Lifting Her Voice.com, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
I have a little trip planned with my sister next month too, but I’ll tell you about that when it gets a little closer.

Well, we took a needed trip this weekend to f2f with Craig, Nicole, and Ellie. Ever since we quit driving the 3 hours to see them every couple of weeks, due to the pandemic, Craig and Nicole have been so good about Facetiming every night during Ellie’s playtime right before bath time at 7pm. It is a time we have grown to depend on and Oh, my! how this new two-year old has changed right before our eyes!
Our trips across Oklahoma have changed drastically. We used to stop here and there and it would be a five hour journey with shopping, quick stops for relief and an XL soda refill for me…..now we get in and go and don’t make any stops along the way. It is tough on my aging body, but yesterday’s journey home was proof I need to continue our new normal!
I made my 2nd journey into Walmart in the last 6 months (to find a marked down blender and king size candy bars on clearance for 20 cents) LOL . At first I was pretty comfortable seeing the masks on everyone as we entered the store, but as I moved toward other sections of the store, my mind could only focus on the fact that NO ONE had masks on in this store. My comfort level and tolerance level hit an all-time low……I am proud of myself in that I realized calling them out is pointless and Julie and I did the Next Right Thing and headed out of that store.
So, it will continue to be Sunday School on Zoom, Church on Youtube, shopping with Walmart pickup, and tons of Amazon shopping. I will make a rare trip to Dollar Tree for cards, clean our groceries, allow our mail to “air out” and wear masks, and social distance. The virus is ramping up big time in our state.
We will not take our usual fall trip with our Sunday School group to Branson in our RVs, nor the fall foliage jeeping trip. Let’s just say it isn’t the right time for us to mingle.
Have fun on your trip!!!

It as changed, I’ll give you that. I’ve made the four-hour drive to visit with Megan a couple of times, but her little town has all of a few hundred people in it. Everyone seems to be following the rules and I didn’t think of it too much. Heading to Reno will be a whole new experience – plus a different state – and it will be interesting to find out if I have the same reaction as you. It leads to that age-old question: If they’re not following this rule, which others are they breaking? Oh, I hate all of this. I’m visiting Montana next month with my sister and I have to add to my to-do list to get a test so I can carry the proof with me.
I am happy that you’ve gotten to see the changes in the Ellie though. That would have been awful to miss. And God is good. With the exception of Paula, our family has been unscathed. I pray it stays that way.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write. I hope we’re all eating in restaurants soon!
