I tend to be very literal. (I think I’ve stated that before.) Therefore, I don’t think I ever really understood the story of the feeding of the 5000 men, especially as told in the 6th chapter of the Book of John in the Bible.
Simply said, a little boy offered his lunch of five loaves and two fish to Jesus. And with that small offering, Jesus fed 5000 men plus their wives and families. Great story…miracle of Jesus.
In 2013, some dear friends suffered a tragedy the likes of which their family had never experienced. It so happened, we had a ministry trip to Africa planned a day or two later. What to do? Cancel? They were emotionally drained, totally distracted, and felt helpless to even imagine ministering to others.
They didn’t cancel. The Lord reminded them of this small boy. They brought what they had…their loaves and fishes. And Jesus was faithful to make something beautiful.
I finally understood what this story really means.
