A psalm of David.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I waited patiently for the Lord,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and he turned to me and heard my cry for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He brought me up from a desolate pit,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>out of the muddy clay,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and set my feet on a rock,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>making my steps secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He put a new song in my mouth,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a hymn of praise to our God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many will see and fear,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and they will trust in the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How happy is anyone<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>who has put his trust in the Lord<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and has not turned to the proud<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>or to those who run after lies!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lord my God, you have done many things \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>your wondrous works and your plans for us;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>none can compare with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If I were to report and speak of them,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they are more than can be told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You do not delight in sacrifice and offering;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you open my ears to listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You do not ask for a whole burnt offering or a sin offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then I said, \u201cSee, I have come;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in the scroll it is written about me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I delight to do your will, my God,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and your instruction is deep within me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>see, I do not keep my mouth closed \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>as you know, Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I did not hide your righteousness in my heart;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I spoke about your faithfulness and salvation;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I did not conceal your constant love and truth<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>from the great assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lord, you do not withhold your compassion from me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your constant love and truth will always guard me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For troubles without number have surrounded me;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>my iniquities have overtaken me; I am unable to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are more than the hairs of my head,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and my courage leaves me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hurry to Help Me<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lord, be pleased to rescue me;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>hurry to help me, Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let those who intend to take my life<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>be disgraced and confounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let those who wish me harm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>be turned back and humiliated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let those who say to me, \u201cAha, aha!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>be appalled because of their shame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>let those who love your salvation continually say,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Lord is great!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am oppressed and needy;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>may the Lord think of me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are my helper and my deliverer;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>my God, do not delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Psalm 41<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Victory in spite of Betrayal<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For the choir director. A psalm of David.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Happy is one who is considerate of the poor;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the Lord will save him in a day of adversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord will keep him and preserve him;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he will be blessed in the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will not give him over to the desire of his enemies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you will heal him on the bed where he lies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I said, \u201cLord, be gracious to me;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>heal me, for I have sinned against you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My enemies speak maliciously about me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen will he die and be forgotten?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When one of them comes to visit, he speaks deceitfully;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he stores up evil in his heart;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he goes out and talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Blessed Be the Lord<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All who hate me whisper together about me;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they plan to harm me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSomething awful has overwhelmed him,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and he won\u2019t rise again from where he lies!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even my friend in whom I trusted,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>one who ate my bread,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>has raised his heel against me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you, Lord, be gracious to me and raise me up;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>then I will repay them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By this I know that you delight in me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>my enemy does not shout in triumph over me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You supported me because of my integrity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and set me in your presence forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>from everlasting to everlasting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amen and amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BOOK II<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>(Psalms 42\u201372)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Psalm 42<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Longing for God<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For the choir director. A&nbsp;<\/em><em><strong>Maskil<\/strong><\/em><em>&nbsp;of the sons of Korah.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God, we have heard with our ears \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>our ancestors have told us \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the work you accomplished in their days,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in days long ago:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to plant them,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you displaced the nations by your hand;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in order to settle them,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you brought disaster on the peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For they did not take the land by their sword \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>their arm did not bring them victory \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but by your right hand, your arm,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and the light of your face,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because you were favorable toward them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are my King, my God,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>who ordains victories for Jacob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through you we drive back our foes;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>through your name we trample our enemies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For I do not trust in my bow,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and my sword does not bring me victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you give us victory over our foes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and let those who hate us be disgraced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We boast in God all day long;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>we will praise your name forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><em>Selah<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you have rejected and humiliated us;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you do not march out with our armies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You make us retreat from the foe,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and those who hate us<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>have taken plunder for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You hand us over to be eaten like sheep<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and scatter us among the nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You sell your people for nothing;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you make no profit from selling them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You make us an object of reproach to our neighbors,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a source of mockery and ridicule to those around us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Don\u2019t Reject Us Forever<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You make us a joke among the nations,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a laughingstock among the peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My disgrace is before me all day long,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and shame has covered my face,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because of the taunts of the scorner and reviler,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because of the enemy and avenger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All this has happened to us,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but we have not forgotten you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>or betrayed your covenant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our hearts have not turned back;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>our steps have not strayed from your path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you have crushed us in a haunt of jackals<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and have covered us with deepest darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we had forgotten the name of our God<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and spread out our hands to a foreign god,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>wouldn\u2019t God have found this out,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>since he knows the secrets of the heart?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of you we are being put to death all day long;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wake up, Lord! Why are you sleeping?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get up! Help us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Redeem us because of your faithful love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Psalm 45<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Royal Wedding Song<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For the choir director: according to \u201cThe Lilies.\u201d A&nbsp;<\/em><strong><em>Maskil<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;of the sons of Korah. A love song.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My heart is moved by a noble theme<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>as I recite my verses to the king;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are the most handsome of men;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>grace flows from your lips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore God has blessed you forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mighty warrior, strap your sword at your side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In your majesty and splendor \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in your splendor ride triumphantly<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in the cause of truth, humility, and justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>May your right hand show your awe-inspiring acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your sharpened arrows pierce the hearts of the king\u2019s enemies;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the peoples fall under you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your throne, God, is forever and ever;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You love righteousness and hate wickedness;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>more than your companions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume all your garments;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>from ivory palaces harps bring you joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>He Is Your Lord<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Kings\u2019 daughters are among your honored women;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the queen, adorned with gold from Ophir,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>stands at your right hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listen, daughter, pay attention and consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forget your people and your father\u2019s house,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and the king will desire your beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bow down to him, for he is your lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The daughter of Tyre, the wealthy people,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>will seek your favor with gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her chamber, the royal daughter is all glorious,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>her clothing embroidered with gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In colorful garments she is led to the king;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>after her, the virgins, her companions, are brought to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are led in with gladness and rejoicing;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they enter the king\u2019s palace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your sons will succeed your ancestors;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you will make them princes throughout the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will cause your name to be remembered for all generations;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>therefore the peoples will praise you forever and ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Close<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Wow, what an interesting love song we have in Psalm 45.&nbsp; I found myself asking if this was a love song to the groom\/king?&nbsp; Or was this directed at God?&nbsp; Was it written for the queen to sing to her bridegroom and king?&nbsp; Or was it intended for Israel to sing to its God?&nbsp; It seems to bounce back and forth, doesn\u2019t it?&nbsp; And a quick peek at some commentaries affirms we\u2019re on the right interpretive track with that. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also see that Psalms has been marked into a Part II.&nbsp; As a matter of fact, you will find that it is divided into five parts.&nbsp; Of course, there are many different offerings as to why and what each part represents.&nbsp; I found a cool article on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/homeschool-101.com\/psalms-devotional\/\">Homeschool-101<\/a>.com.&nbsp; It suggests that each of the five parts represents the five books of the Torah.&nbsp; Could be, I suppose.&nbsp; It also ascribes each part concentrates on God being besides, before, around, above, and amongst us respectively.&nbsp; I\u2019ll have to keep this in mind next year when I read the Psalms again.&nbsp; The article still makes you think, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also see the addition of the Sons of Korah as song-writers here.&nbsp; You\u2019ll recall that the sons of Korah were assigned by David to be in charge of music in the temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gosh, I only had time to talk about one poem in this episode.&nbsp; Which one grabbed your attention?&nbsp;
