class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Israel\u2019s False Hopes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Put the ram\u2019s horn to your mouth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One like an eagle comes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>against the house of the Lord,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because they transgress my covenant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and rebel against my law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel cries out to me,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy God, we know you!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel has rejected what is good;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>an enemy will pursue him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They have installed kings,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but not through me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They have appointed leaders,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but without my approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They make their silver and gold<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>into idols for themselves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for their own destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your calf-idol is rejected, Samaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My anger burns against them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How long will they be incapable of innocence?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this thing is from Israel \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a craftsman made it, and it is not God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The calf of Samaria will be smashed to bits!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, they sow the wind<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and reap the whirlwind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no standing grain;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>what sprouts fails to yield flour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if they did,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>foreigners would swallow it up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel is swallowed up!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now they are among the nations<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like discarded pottery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For they have gone up to Assyria<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like a wild donkey going off on its own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Instructions Continually Ignored<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim has paid for love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though they hire lovers among the nations,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will now round them up,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and they will begin to decrease in number<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>under the burden of the king and leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Ephraim multiplied his altars for sin,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they became his altars for sinning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though I were to write out for him<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ten thousand points of my instruction,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they would be regarded as something strange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though they offer sacrificial gifts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and eat the flesh,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the Lord does not accept them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now he will remember their guilt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and punish their sins;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they will return to Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judah has also multiplied fortified cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will send fire on their cities,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and it will consume their citadels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hosea Chapter 9<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Coming Exile<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel, do not rejoice jubilantly as the nations do,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for you have acted promiscuously, leaving your God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You love the wages of a prostitute<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>on every grain-threshing floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Threshing floor and wine vat will not sustain them,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and the new wine will fail them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will not stay in the land of the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, Ephraim will return to Egypt,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will not pour out<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>their wine offerings to the Lord,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and their sacrifices will not please him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their food will be like the bread of mourners;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>all who eat it become defiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For their bread will be for their appetites alone;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>it will not enter the house of the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What will you do on a festival day,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>on the day of the Lord\u2019s feast?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For even if they flee from devastation,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Egypt will gather them, and Memphis will bury them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thistles will take possession of their precious silver;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thorns will invade their tents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The days of punishment have come;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the days of retribution have come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let Israel recognize it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prophet is a fool,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and the inspired man is insane,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because of the magnitude<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>of your iniquity and hostility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim\u2019s watchman is with my God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet the prophet encounters a bird trap<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>on all his pathways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hostility is in the house of his God!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They have deeply corrupted themselves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>as in the days of Gibeah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He will remember their iniquity;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he will punish their sins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ephraim Bereaved of Offspring<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I discovered Israel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like grapes in the wilderness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I saw your ancestors<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like the first fruit of the fig tree in its first season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But they went to Baal-peor,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>consecrated themselves to Shame,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and became abhorrent,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like the thing they loved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim\u2019s glory will fly away like a bird:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>no birth, no pregnancy, no conception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if they raise children,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will bereave them of each one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, woe to them when I depart from them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have seen Ephraim like Tyre,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>planted in a meadow,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>so Ephraim will bring out his children<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>to the executioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Give them, Lord \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What should you give?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Give them a womb that miscarries<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and breasts that are dry!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All their evil appears at Gilgal,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for there I began to hate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will drive them from my house<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because of their evil, wicked actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will no longer love them;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>all their leaders are rebellious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim is struck down;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>their roots are withered;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they cannot bear fruit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if they bear children,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will kill the precious offspring of their wombs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My God will reject them<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because they have not listened to him;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they will become wanderers among the nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hosea Chapter 10<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Vine and the Calf<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel is a lush vine;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>it yields fruit for itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more his fruit increased,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the more he increased the altars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The better his land produced,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the better they made the sacred pillars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their hearts are devious;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>now they must bear their guilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord will break down their altars<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and demolish their sacred pillars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, they are now saying,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have no king!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For we do not fear the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can a king do for us?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They speak mere words,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>taking false oaths while making covenants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So lawsuits break out<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like poisonous weeds in the furrows of a field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The residents of Samaria will have anxiety<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>over the calf of Beth-aven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, its idolatrous priests rejoiced over it;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the people will mourn over it,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>over its glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will certainly go into exile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The calf itself will be taken to Assyria<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>as an offering to the great king.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim will experience shame;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel will be ashamed of its counsel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samaria\u2019s king will disappear<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like foam on the surface of the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>will be destroyed;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thorns and thistles will grow over their altars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will say to the mountains, \u201cCover us!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and to the hills, \u201cFall on us!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Israel\u2019s Defeat because of Sin<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel, you have sinned<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>since the days of Gibeah;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they have taken their stand there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will not war against the unjust<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>overtake them in Gibeah?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will discipline them at my discretion;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>nations will be gathered against them<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>to put them in bondage<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for their double iniquity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim is a well-trained calf<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>that loves to thresh,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but I will place a yoke on her fine neck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will harness Ephraim;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judah will plow;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacob will do the final plowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sow righteousness for yourselves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and reap faithful love;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>break up your unplowed ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is time to seek the Lord<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>until he comes and sends righteousness<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>on you like the rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have plowed wickedness and reaped injustice;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you have eaten the fruit of lies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because you have trusted in your own way<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and in your large number of soldiers,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the roar of battle will rise against your people,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and all your fortifications will be demolished<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in a day of war,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like Shalman\u2019s destruction of Beth-arbel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mothers will be dashed to pieces<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>along with their children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it will be done to you, Bethel,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because of your extreme evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At dawn the king of Israel will be totally destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hosea Chapter 11<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Lord\u2019s Love for Israel<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When Israel was a child, I loved him,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and out of Egypt I called my son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel called to the Egyptians<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>even as Israel was leaving them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They kept sacrificing to the Baals<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and burning offerings to idols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was I who taught Ephraim to walk,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>taking them by the hand,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but they never knew that I healed them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I led them with human cords,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>with ropes of love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To them I was like one<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>who eases the yoke from their jaws;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I bent down to give them food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel will not return to the land of Egypt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and Assyria will be his king,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because they refused to repent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A sword will whirl through his cities;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>it will destroy and devour the bars of his gates,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because of their schemes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My people are bent on turning from me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though they call to him on high,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he will not exalt them at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can I give you up, Ephraim?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can I surrender you, Israel?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can I make you like Admah?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can I treat you like Zeboiim?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have had a change of heart;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>my compassion is stirred!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will not vent the full fury of my anger;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will not turn back to destroy Ephraim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>They Will Follow the Lord<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For I am God and not man,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the Holy One among you;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will not come in rage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will follow the Lord;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he will roar like a lion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When he roars,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>his children will come trembling from the west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will be roused like birds from Egypt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and like doves from the land of Assyria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then I will settle them in their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the Lord\u2019s declaration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim surrounds me with lies,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the house of Israel, with deceit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judah still wanders with God<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and is faithful to the holy ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hosea Chapter 12<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>God\u2019s Case Against Jacob\u2019s Heirs<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim chases the wind<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and pursues the east wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He continually multiplies lies and violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He makes a covenant with Assyria,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and olive oil is carried to Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord also has a dispute with Judah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is about to punish Jacob according to his conduct;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he will repay him based on his actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the womb he grasped his brother\u2019s heel,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and as an adult he wrestled with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacob struggled with the angel and prevailed;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he wept and sought his favor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He found him at Bethel,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and there he spoke with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord is the God of Armies;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the Lord is his name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you must return to your God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maintain love and justice,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and always put your hope in God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A merchant loves to extort<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>with dishonest scales in his hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Ephraim thinks,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow rich I have become;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I made it all myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all my earnings,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>no one can find any iniquity in me<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>that I can be punished for!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Judgment on Apostate Israel<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I have been the Lord your God<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ever since the land of Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will make you live in tents again,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>as in the festival days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will speak through the prophets<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and grant many visions;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will give parables through the prophets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Gilead is full of evil,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they will certainly come to nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They sacrifice bulls in Gilgal;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>even their altars will be like piles of rocks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>on the furrows of a field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Further Indictment of Jacob\u2019s Heirs<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacob fled to the territory of Aram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel worked to earn a wife;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he tended flocks for a wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord brought Israel from Egypt by a prophet,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and Israel was tended by a prophet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim has provoked bitter anger,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>so his Lord will leave his bloodguilt on him<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and repay him for his contempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hosea Chapter 13<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he was exalted in Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But he incurred guilt through Baal and died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now they continue to sin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and make themselves a cast image,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>idols skillfully made from their silver,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>all of them the work of craftsmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People say about them,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLet the men who sacrifice kiss the calves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, they will be like the morning mist,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like the early dew that vanishes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like chaff blown from a threshing floor,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>or like smoke from a window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Death and Resurrection<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I have been the Lord your God<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ever since the land of Egypt;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you know no God but me,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and no Savior exists besides me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I knew you in the wilderness,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in the land of drought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they had pasture,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they became satisfied;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>they were satisfied,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and their hearts became proud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore they forgot me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I will be like a lion to them;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will lurk like a leopard on the path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will attack them<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like a bear robbed of her cubs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and tear open the rib cage over their hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will devour them there like a lioness,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like a wild beast that would rip them open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will destroy you, Israel;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>you have no help but me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where now is your king,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>that he may save you in all your cities,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and the rulers you demanded, saying,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGive me a king and leaders\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I give you a king in my anger<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and take away a king in my wrath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim\u2019s guilt is preserved;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>his sin is stored up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Labor pains come on him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is not a wise son;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>when the time comes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he will not be born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will ransom them from the power of Sheol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will redeem them from death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Death, where are your barbs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheol, where is your sting?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compassion is hidden from my eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Coming Judgment<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although he flourishes among his brothers,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>an east wind will come,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a wind from the Lord rising up from the desert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His water source will fail,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and his spring will run dry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wind will plunder the treasury<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>of every precious item.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samaria will bear her guilt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>because she has rebelled against her God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will fall by the sword;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>their children will be dashed to pieces,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and their pregnant women ripped open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hosea Chapter 14<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Plea to Repent<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel, return to the Lord your God,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for you have stumbled in your iniquity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take words of repentance with you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and return to the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Say to him, \u201cForgive all our iniquity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and accept what is good,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>so that we may repay you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>with praise from our lips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assyria will not save us,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>we will not ride on horses,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and we will no longer proclaim, \u2018Our gods! \u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>to the work of our hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the fatherless receives compassion in you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Promise of Restoration<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I will heal their apostasy;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will freely love them,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for my anger will have turned from him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will be like the dew to Israel;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>he will blossom like the lily<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and take root like the cedars of Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His new branches will spread,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and his splendor will be like the olive tree,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>his fragrance, like the forest of Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The people will return and live beneath his shade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will grow grain<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and blossom like the vine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His renown will be like the wine of Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ephraim, why should I have anything more<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>to do with idols?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is I who answer and watch over him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am like a flourishing pine tree;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>your fruit comes from me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let whoever is wise understand these things,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and whoever is insightful recognize them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the ways of the Lord are right,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and the righteous walk in them,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but the rebellious stumble in them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Close<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Over and over and over, Israel has rejected God.&nbsp; And Hosea reminds them of this and warns them that exile will come.&nbsp; Hosea 10:12 is one of my favorite verses.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>&#8216;Sow righteousness for yourselves and reap faithful love; break up your unplowed ground. It is time to seek the Lord until he comes and sends righteousness on you like the rain.&#8217;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hosea 10:8 is quoted by both Jesus in Luke 23:30 and by John in Revelation 6:16, both of them speaking of what people will exclaim in the presence of God\u2019s wrath.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>They will say to the mountains, \u201cCover us!\u201d and to the hills, \u201cFall on us!\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even Paul, in 1 Corinthians 15:55-57, borrows from Hosea.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
